The holidays are here which offer the perfect excuse for snacking. I tend to look for snacks I can munch on while driving and something that the kids will love. One of my favorite companies to get snacks as well as many other products from is a campany called Newman’s Own.
In 1982, Newman’s Own started as a tiny boutique operation – parchment labels on elegant wine bottles that Paul Newman filled with his homemade salad dressing and gave to his neighbors as holiday gifts. He expected train wrecks along the way and, instead, got one astonishment followed by another.But in these thirty years, Paul Newman and Newman’s Own Foundation have given over $450 million to thousands of charities.
Today, Newman’s Own produces over 200 individual products across 20 categories. Always great tasting, always top quality, just the way our founder, Paul Newman, insisted. This company always follows his vision for putting quality first.
I was recently offered the opportunity to try some of their products and I will say, I was pretty surprised with the wide array of products this company offers. Not only were they delicious, but they were a hit with my kids. Here is what I was sent and what I thought about it.
Snacks:
Oraganic Raisins Available Sizes: 6oz Ziplock, 14ct 0.5oz Mini Boxes, 6ct 1.5oz Boxes, 15oz Canister. These raisins were not only fresh and soft, but very flavorful. I loved how they came in the ziploc bag to keep them fresh while on the go. The kids absolutely loved these and the fact that they were organic made me feel good offering it to them as a snack. The color was rich and deep for the raisins and every bite was delicious.
Organic Salted Pretzel Rounds Available Sizes: 8oz. These pretzels were perfectly sized for little hands to hold easily. They weren’t too
salty, which is something that I loved. Their rich flavor has a buttery flavor to them which really keeps you grabbing for more. These were not only delicious, but crunchy.
Organic Butter Popcorn Available Sizes: 3.3oz. This was no different for preperation that your typical microwave popcorn, however this tasted a whole lot better. Offering the perfect balance of butter with light salt, the popcorn melted in my mouth leaving me reaching for more and more. When popped, almost all the kernals popped in the bag. This has our other popcorn beat by miles.
Cookies:
Cinnamon Hermits Available Sizes: 9oz. These are the perfect holiday cookie in my opinion. They are soft, chewy and offer a lot of flavor. The kids were a little iffy on these as they aren’t huge cinnamon fans, but for me and a few other adults my age, we loved them!
Chocolate Chip Cookies Available Sizes: 7oz. Now these are a bite sized piece of heaven. The bag can be folded down and sealed shut, but we sure didn’t need it. My kids loved these and so did I. These cookies were crunchy and had a perfect balance of chocolate chips in them. They had a delicious flavor and are perfect for on the go.
Chocolate Alphabet Cookies Available Sizes: 7oz These were my son’s favorite. Considering that he is five and learning the alphabet, I thought these were pretty neat as well. The cookies are shaped for him to grab easily and offer a good crunch. The chocolate flavor in these is absolutely delicious. It isn’t overbearing and would make a great snack for kindergartners for snacks to share. The bag is resealable and the size is reasonable.
Original Newman-O’s Available Sizes: 13oz, 8oz. I offered these to the kids without telling them the brand and wanted to see if they would be able to tell the difference. They are huge Oreo fans, so they were the perfect ones to test. Two of the kids mistaked these for Oreos while the other three which were the older kid, said it was pretty close for flavor. The difference with these is they had less of a sweet taste. Sometimes Oreos seem so sweet after eating a couple, but with these, you can eat them without them tasting so sweet. I would rather have these than Oreos personally.
Strawberry Fig Newmans Available Sizes: 10oz Now these are DELICIOUS! There are different flavors of these of course, but I would say my family is more partial to the strawberry flavor. These are soft chewy and the flavor of these just makes my mouth water talking about them. My kids actually prefer these over Fig Newtons. The outer part of the cookie isn’t dry like the Fig Newton brand. The whole cookie is moist as well as flavorful.
Chocolate:
Organic Super Dark Chocolate Bars Available Sizes: 3.25oz This is a pretty large candy bar. You can break it up into pieces, but then again, eating it from the whole bar doesn’t break any rules. This offers a more sophistacated flavor. The younger kids didn’t care for this, but then again, they don’t typically like dark chocolate. My oldest loves dark chocolate and said this was the best she has tasted.
Organic Milk Chocolate Bars Available Sizes: 3.25oz Wow wow wow! This
has a rich milk chocolate flavor that melts in your mouth. The flavor is smooth and absolutely delicious. As much as I tried to save some of the bar for later, I kept finding myself eating swuare after square. I felt like such a piggy when I finished it, but it was just too good.
Organic Super Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cups Available Sizes: 1.2oz
Organic Dark Chocolate Peppermint Cups Available Sizes: 1.2oz
Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups Available Sizes: 1.2oz
These are a lot different than your typical peanut butter cups. I love the spin on the other flavors and these are delicious. The mint ones seemed to be the number one hit with the kids while the raspberry ones were a hit for the older people such as myself. Each cup is perfectly sized to escape to bliss and enjoy a brief moment in paradise.
Candy:
Licorice Twists- Newman’s Own offers a huge array of licorice twists. Whether you like them sour, sweet, or out of the ordinary. This company sure offers something for everyone. The licorice is fresh and soft and way better than any other brand that I have tried. Sizes offered for the licorice twists are available Sizes: 5oz, 1.25oz.
Organic Peppermint Mints Available Sizes: 1.76oz, 4-pack single roll. The mints are very delicious and certainly will conquer any breath you may have that needs a remedy while out and about. Upon popping one in my mouth, it was a crisp and minty flavor which perked me up.
No matter what you are looking for, Newman’s Own offers something for everyone. Their products are flavorful and top quality in my opinion.
