Living in the mid-west means it is cold and very cold most of the time. We reach temperatures as low as -40 degrees with high winds and blizzards. Life doesn’t stop when the weather gets bad here, we have to adapt. We adapt by dressing in warm layers to keep warm and brave the cold.
Before I use to just wear a regular winter hat, but it just wasn’t cutting it. Even with a scarf, my face felt frozen, especially when I had to go out and feed the horses. I would come in feeling like an icicle. I was recently offered the opportunity to try some balacavas. One was in snow camo, and the other was in pink camo. I was pretty excited to because anything that offered me warmth while out braving the outdoors was perfect.
These are made of thick fleece. Each camo pattern is perfect. Colors are nice and vibrant. Each one can be tightened by simply pulling a cord. There is a plastic clasp to secure the desired tightness. The cord is a little thinner than what I use to, but it seems nice and strong. These keep everything protected from the weather elements but your eyes of course. Looking at the stitching, it is all done from the inside and stitched very well. I didn’t see any loose threads and these were double stitched. I did wash these in cold on gentle cycle. I neglected to dry them as they are fleece and I knew they would shrink if I did. So, I let them air dry. Once dried, they were still soft and thick. Colors didn’t fade.
