Tea Tree Oil Apothecary Extracts by Red Rover Naturals

Tea Tree Oil is one of the oils that I make sure I have in my home. It offers so many benefits in a safe and natural way to cure various ailments and the plus to it is that it is a fraction of the price that you would pay for medications to cure those ailments. One of my favorite brands is a brand called Red Rover Naturals. They make quality essential oils and keep them affordable for the consumer.

A little about it! Tea tree oil is derived from the leaves of the tea tree. The tea tree was named by eighteenth century sailors, who made tea that smelled like nutmeg from the leaves of the tree growing on the swampy southeast Australian coast. Do not confuse the tea tree with the unrelated common tea plant that is used to make black and green teas. Tea tree oil is applied to the skin (used topically) for infections such as acne, fungal infections of the nail (onychomycosis), lice, scabies, athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), and ringworm. It is also used topically as a local antiseptic for cuts and abrasions, for burns, insect bites and stings, boils, vaginal infections, recurrent herpes labialis, toothache, infections of the mouth and nose, sore throat, and for ear infections such as otitis media and otitis externa. Some people add it to bath water to treat cough, bronchial congestion, and pulmonary inflammation.

How does it work? The chemicals in tea tree oil may kill bacteria and fungus, and reduce allergic skin reactions.

Precautions: This is considered to be a fairly safe oil to use, however it is advised to not use with young males in puberty. It is important to follow all safety precautions with this and make sure you are aware of any signs of allergic reaction and cautions.

I use it for a lot of different things in my home however one thing I will write about using this for is lice. As I looked all over the internet, there were different articles stating that this was questionable for killing them. Now, I don’t know about killing them. I have never had that issue yet, but I am sure with five children in school, it may happen.

My kids’ school is a relatively huge one. It has many children and for some reason, I was getting letter after letter sent home notifying me there was a student who had head lice. Now, my daughters have extremely long hair. When I received the note, I immediately checked them, ha my husband check, and my mother. I wanted to be sure they were clear. I looked for different things I could do to help deter them from finding a home in my children’s hair.

One of the things I read was using tea tree oil in their shampoo as well as in a spritz before they went to school. Me, being the neat freak that I am, was not willing to take any chances, so I gave this a try. I would wash my kids’ hair the night before, blow dry it, and in the morning while doing their hair, I sprayed their hair with the spritz. The smell of this isn’t too bad, but I believe it is what deters the lice. My kids have had so many different notices sent home about this issue in their classrooms and my children have remained clear. I literally will swear by this for prevention.

I always make sure I keep this in my home. With so many benefits it offers, it is well worth it. Now, I know some of you may be reading this with an eyebrow raised wondering why I chose to tell you about lice prevention. If you are a parent, you are probably writing a note down to get this. I know not many people will discuss this issue. Whatever will save you from the horror of having to deal with those is well worth it. They are an absolute nightmare as we all have encountered in our childhood I am sure.
